About Marisa

I am an American jazz vocalist and vocal coach based in London. I specialise in performing lesser-known repertoire from the Great American Songbook, to jazz arrangements of slightly obscure singer-songwriters (Harry Nilsson, Arthur Russell, Jonathan Richman), to Spanish-language songs which reflect my Chicana background.

I provide supportive, inclusive vocal coaching for beginners, returners and seasoned pros. These lessons are playful and judgement-free, so you can be yourself and explore your voice with confidence. I provide practical feedback and resources tailored to your goals. Lessons are online on Zoom or in-person in East London.

I am passionate about accessibility and inclusivity in performer training, as an artist with lived experience of disability. I am also a long-time LGBTQIA+ ally, and aim to provide a safe and inclusive space for anyone wanting to grow their vocal practice.

I’ve completed singing teacher training with BAST, I am a Vocal Health First Aider, I completed Trans Voice Teacher Training with Stephen Davidson, and I’m currently working on a Certificate in Teaching Singing Inclusively.

Enhanced DBS certified.

Qualifications:
Completed BAST singing teacher foundation course, Vocal Health First Aid certification, Trans Voice Teacher Training with Stephen Davidson, MA in Applied Theatre (performance with chronically ill artists), Vocal Performance - CalArts.

About the lesson

Lessons are typically 55 minutes. The free lesson is a 30 minute online intro call and vocal assessment, to confirm whether we are a good fit for each other.

Most of my practice is online, but I will be offering some in-person lessons in East London, from Autumn 2026.

I typically work with adults, but I am open to working with younger folks (subject to an intro chat with them and their parents/guardians).

About my approach to teaching:
• I offer clear, actionable guidance, and prioritise your vocal health
Whether you want to work on storytelling, vocal agility, breath management, performance skills, or self-confidence – I will offer specific feedback and help you grow at your own pace, in a safe, relaxed, and healthy way.

• I foster a supportive, collaborative, and fun environment
I celebrate your creativity and individual progress. Authenticity rules, cookie cutters drool!

• I am style-agnostic as a teacher
I am much more interested in tailoring lessons to your individual vocal goals, learning pace/styles, and favourite styles of music – whether you love jazz, folk, pop, or something else.

IMPORTANT - STUDIO POLICY: Most lessons require 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. If something unexpected happens after that time, please reach out, and we’ll figure it out together. Life and health can shift fast - communication is the most important part.
