My teaching methodology depends on how advanced the mathematical problem is. If it’s basic I explain in steps but in most advanced cases I always have to refer my students to more basic problems relating to the problem at hand and we advance together to the level at which the problem is given. I always do this because if my students have foundational knowledge it’s always easy for them to solve complex problems.
