About Alex
Every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and excited about learning, especially in those early years when it matters most. That belief is what led me to become a primary school teacher, with a focus on helping children develop a genuine love of learning and giving them the strongest possible start in life. I am also passionate about being a positive male role model, supporting not only academic progress but children’s confidence and personal development.
I currently teach in Key Stage 1, which I particularly enjoy because of how engaging, varied, and creative it is. Every day is different, and there are endless opportunities to make learning fun, meaningful, and memorable for children at this stage.
My teaching style is adaptable depending on the child. I can be calm and nurturing when building confidence, but also energetic and engaging to keep children motivated and interested. I understand that at this age, many parents worry about their child missing key building blocks in their learning, especially in phonics and early reading. In a full classroom, it can be difficult to give every child the individual attention they need, which is where one to one tutoring can make a real difference.
Through tutoring, I ensure that no gaps are missed. I focus on securing the fundamentals, building confidence, and helping children feel successful in their learning.
Outside of teaching, I am an outdoorsy and outgoing person who enjoys spending time with my family and my dogs. I bring that same positive energy and enthusiasm into my teaching, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for every child I work with.

Teaching approach & methodology:
My teaching is structured, engaging, and tailored to each child’s needs. I use systematic phonics approaches aligned with schemes such as Little Wandle, alongside strategies from Talk for Writing to support early writing development. Sessions focus on blending, segmenting, fluency, and comprehension, with lots of modelling, repetition, and interactive activities to build confidence quickly.
I prioritise small, achievable steps so children experience success early, which helps develop both skill and motivation. Lessons are adapted in real time based on how the child responds.
Typical lesson length:
Lessons are usually 45–60 minutes, depending on the child’s age and concentration. Shorter 30-minute sessions can be arranged for younger learners or those who benefit from more focused input.
Qualifications & experience:
I am a qualified primary school teacher currently teaching Year 1 in the UK, with daily experience delivering phonics, reading, and writing lessons. I work with children across a range of abilities, including those needing additional support and those working at greater depth.
