About Lisa
Hello! I have been working with kiddos in 8th grade for the last 6 years and I have learned just as much from the students as they have learned from me. Before that, I taught in 1st, 4th, and 5th grade.
I conducted professional development classes for other educators who were interested in the student-led workshops I established in my classroom. Students who mastered skills had the opportunity to sign up to run a workshop. They chose the number of people in their group. This was a great way for students to strengthen their leadership skills and help peers.
History is definitely my favorite subject. Topics I commonly teach include: WWI, The Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, WWII, the Holocaust, Vietnam War, and Cold War. My favorite subtopic is the Ghost Army. Not many students, or adults, have heard of the Ghost army from WWII. It is extremely interesting and I highly recommend researching it!
Volunteer positions I filled include: Relay for Life team leader, Boone County Panther Football photographer, Belvidere Bandits Wrestling photographer, Girl Scout leader, and math, homework, and debate clubs. I was also the school dance team coach for 5 years.
Last thing about me is that I enjoy auto mechanics. I rebuilt a Dodge Ram engine for my first repair project and I have been working on cars ever since. I do have 1 project I put together for auto mechanics that some of my kiddos in the past have really enjoyed!
