About Ananya

I have been learning and practicing Bharatanatyam for over 20 years, and it continues to be a deeply meaningful part of my life.

I’ve had the privilege of training students for several stage performances and have created both solo and group choreographies to several pieces in different dance styles.

I have also several trained students for the special dance milestone, their arangetrams, which involved both physical and mental training. I have also assisted in the staging of dance dramas, which has shaped my understanding of both the technical and expressive aspects of the art form.

As a teacher, I value creating a warm, inclusive, and encouraging space where everyone feels comfortable to learn and grow. I love sharing Bharatanatyam in a way that feels accessible while still honoring its richness and tradition, and I look forward to dancing together and sharing that joy with you.

About the lesson

Bharatanatyam is a beautiful yet intense style!
I recognise the difficulty of getting back into it after a long break, or getting started as an adult.

BUT! It is time to let go of the notion of perfectionism and enjoy dancing first!

I teach the style with a focus on moving with intention and the well-being of the dancer in mind. I tailor existing choreography to the physical abilities of the dancers and enable them to achieve their goals with targeted practice sessions.

I primarily teach adults who are beginners or want to get back into Bharathanatyam, and I am open to teaching older children (12+) as well.

Each lesson would be 1-1.5h long, with warm-ups, revision of basic steps, and a choreographed piece. I also share Bharathanatyam theory throughout the classes.
