About Oegmundur Thor

Hello and welcome! I’m Thor, a classical guitarist from Iceland. I studied with three of the world’s leading guitarists: Marco Tamayo at the Mozarteum Salzburg (with distinction), Carlo Marchione at the Conservatorium Maastricht, and Ricardo Gallén in Barcelona. For over 15 years I have taught and performed internationally across Europe, Asia, the USA, and South America, giving masterclasses at institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music, Tianjin Conservatory, and the Iceland Academy of Arts. I have also premiered contemporary works, appeared at leading festivals, and received prizes at international competitions and artistic awards in Iceland. Teaching is central to my music life: I take great satisfaction in guiding students to discover their sound, strengthen their technique, and enjoy the guitar at every level.

About the lesson

My teaching style is clear, adaptive, and supportive. I place strong emphasis on building a solid technical foundation — posture, tone, fingerings, and effective practice routines — because these are the tools that make playing more natural, enjoyable, and expressive.

In my lessons, we connect technique with music from the very beginning. I weave in music theory in a natural, approachable way: understanding phrasing, harmony, and structure helps you recognize the architecture of music and play with greater expression and confidence.

Alongside technique and theory, I also integrate performance skills — stage preparation, mental focus, and the ability to connect practice with real performance. Whether you’re a beginner learning your first chords or an advanced student preparing concert repertoire, my goal is to guide you toward steady progress, creativity, and musical freedom — while keeping the joy of music at the center.

For students aiming for formal qualifications, I am familiar with the ABRSM and Trinity College London exam systems and can support your preparation alongside broader artistic development.
