About Eleonore

I teach since more than 15 years in music school and privately to :
-beginner (with or without music reading knowledge)
- intermediate
-advanced (any grade, conservatory exams, ...)
-kids from 4 (piano) and 5-6 (cello)
-teenagers
-adults

I taught students from all background. I would be happy to teach cello, my first instrument or piano, my second instrument as well as music theory to yourself or to your children.
Trustable and encouraging, I am really devoted to teaching.

Before coming to London, I was teaching cello in a music school in Paris to 21 lovely students from different background. I have been teaching in private lessons for many years, from beginner to advanced level. During the lockdown in Paris, I was delivering lessons online and gained valuable experience in this new method of teaching!

I am also fairly demanding, so that my students are always happy with their improvments ! :-)

You can check my personal site to find more informations and media by typing my name Eleonore Bernhardt on Google.

Looking forward to meet you !

English

Hello,
French professional cellist based in London, I studied in Paris conservatory and Royal college of Music in masters of performance.
Teaching is a passion : I am a kind, open minded, patient, and encouraging teacher.
My lessons are based in Fulham SW6, but if you don't live too far I can come to you (see travel fees with me).
If you have lessons at my place, you will enjoy a cosy and musician friendly place.

You will quickly see improvements and satisfaction in your or your kid’s playing, whatever is your level when you first come to me.

My aim is to make the cello easy for you to play and enjoy this beautiful instrument at the maximum!
My role is to help you with tips and advices to achieve this
beautiful goal : play the cello.

I teach to :

-Adults, teenagers and children from 5 years old are all welcome in my class.
- all level : very beginner, beginner, all grades, advanced
- all aim : just for fun/to play a specific song/to help children with practice if they are in music school/preparation and coaching for competitions/preparation for entry exams in any school
- ABRSM grades preparation
- I also play and teach the piano (beginner or grades)

-I build with you a personalized program with technic exercises adapted to your level, and music you would like to play. If you don't have any ideas, no worries : the possibility are infinite and I have with me plenty of scores to recommand you.
- I teach with different technic methods depending on age, skills, music reading level (from very beginner to advanced)

Finally, customise my lessons, by taking into consideration the personality, needs, strengths and weaknesses of each student.
Some of my students have specific needs because they have a physical issue (fingers, hand, back, seating arrangement,...) and yet they can learn and enjoy to play because together we find what is the best for them.
My approach is based on creating a positive and encouraging environment, where students can gain selfconfidence, while learning healthy techniques of playing and expressing themselves musically.
Whatever are your objectives, I will be with you, with good advices, coaching and help until the point you want to reach.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

We had a grand piano at home and I was hearing my mum practicing every day. I started to improvise on her piano when I was very little. I started to play the cello later, at ten years old. Piano and cello are both in my heart.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

It can be anything if I like it in the moment, and I can listen to it without getting bored many times a day for weeks.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think it would be difficult for me to teach a kid absolutely not concerned about learning music. Without a minimum of interest from the student, giving lesson can be exhausting! Therefore, I would try as much as possible to catch their interest.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

No, I sincerely think that all instruments are complicated in their own way to master.
We often hear that piano seems "easier" to start with as you see clearly which note you are playing, but as soon as you enter in the musicality, it becomes extremely complex to play it properly at a high level. If we want to sound great, then the difficulty is the same for everything. It depends on how much your teacher and yourself are demanding!
  • What are your keys to success?

Being patient, practicing well, sleeping well.
"Don't stop to practice just before the water boil", said an old teacher.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Bill Evans, just to hear him play jazz live!
Jacqueline Dupré to feel her incredible life energy
Mozart : it might sounds cliché but I've always wondered how it would be to have a discussion with him and how far he could go in his thoughts.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Since ever : when I was back from school I was tired and glum, when I was back from music conservatory, I was singing and happy!
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

By listening the little struggles of my students, I analyse the issue and together we find a technical and concret solution.
I always encourage them to trust in themselves, by showing them the quality and strength they have. Yes, everyone has skills in music. Not all the same, and so ? :-)
I am truly committed with my students as far as they are motivated, and the 'cello time' becomes a good time, a moment where we breath with the music.
