About Seunghyun

Hi! I’m a native Korean speaker, born and raised in Korea, and currently living in the United States. I enjoy helping learners discover not only the Korean language, but also the culture, society, and everyday life behind it.

I have over two years of experience mentoring international undergraduate and graduate students one-on-one, helping them understand Korean culture, communication, and life in Korea. I also worked as a teaching assistant at Seoul National University, where I developed course materials and provided individual support to students.

I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, where I also completed a Graduate Certificate in Asian Studies, and a master’s degree from Seoul National University. I have completed the coursework required for Level 2 Korean Language Teacher certification, with the related degree expected in February 2027.

Having experienced learning foreign languages myself, I understand how challenging it can be to communicate in a new language. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence step by step.

My lessons can be tailored to your goals, whether you are a complete beginner, want to improve your conversation skills, or are preparing to study, travel, or work in Korea. Having worked at a major Korean corporation, I can also help students learn workplace Korean and better understand Korean professional culture.

My goal is to help you learn practical Korean while also understanding the real culture and context behind the language.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized to your Korean level, goals, and interests. Whether you’re a complete beginner, want to improve your conversation skills, or are preparing to study, travel, or work in Korea, I’ll help you learn practical Korean you can actually use.

A typical lesson starts with a quick review and conversation, followed by new vocabulary, grammar, or expressions based on your learning goals. We then practice through conversation and real-life situations, with feedback on pronunciation and natural Korean usage. For beginners, we can start step by step with Hangul and basic expressions.

I use authentic Korean materials and real-life examples while incorporating Korean culture and social context, so you learn not only what to say, but when, why, and how Koreans actually say it. Lessons can also be tailored for students preparing for university life or the workplace in Korea.

Most importantly, my lessons are a comfortable space where making mistakes is always okay. My goal is to help you build confidence and use Korean naturally in situations that matter to you.
