About Shu-Wei

I hold a degree in education from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), widely regarded as Taiwan’s leading university for teacher education, and I have hands-on experience working as an elementary school teacher in rural eastern Taiwan, where I was primarily responsible for teaching English.

Since then, I have lived and worked in Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada. Living in different countries has given me a deeper understanding of how language works in real-life situations and how different learners approach a new language.

As a native Taiwanese Mandarin speaker, I specialize in Traditional Chinese and Taiwanese Mandarin. With both formal training in education and real classroom experience, I can offer more than just conversation practice: I know how to explain concepts clearly, adapt to different learners, and create lessons that are both effective and enjoyable.

About the lesson

Learning a language should be useful, enjoyable, and something you actually want to keep learning. As a Taiwanese Mandarin speaker with a degree in education and experience teaching in a rural elementary school in Taiwan, I understand both the challenges of learning a language and the importance of finding a teaching style that works for you.

My lessons focus on Traditional Chinese, with plenty of flexibility depending on your goals and interests. Whether you want to improve your conversation skills, pronunciation, vocabulary, or simply become more comfortable using Mandarin in everyday situations, I will adapt our lessons to your needs.

I have also lived and worked in Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada, so I understand how valuable it is to learn a language beyond textbooks and classrooms. My lessons are relaxed and friendly, but I still expect students to put in some effort between lessons. After all, a comfortable lesson is great, but spending an hour chatting in English and calling it Mandarin practice is probably not quite the educational experience either of us signed up for. (I'm still happy to take the money though)
