About Ao

Hi! My name is Ao! I'm from Japan and currently studying Business and Commerce at Monash University in Melbourne!

I’m a friendly and outgoing person, and I really enjoy watching anime and movies. I love talking about my favorite shows, discovering new films, and sharing recommendations. I’m also a big fan of music, especially rock, so I’m always happy to chat about different artists and songs too!

I also spent several years living in the United States when I was younger, which gave me a lot of experience communicating in English. I also hold EIKEN Pre-1 and an IELTS score of 6.5, so I’m comfortable using English to support you when needed. I also hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) in Victoria.

About the lesson

My main goal is to help you enjoy learning Japanese and become more confident actually speaking it. I want our lessons to be much more than just learning words and grammar. While practising Japanese, we can also talk about Japanese culture, the way Japanese people think, everyday life in Japan, interesting customs, entertainment, food, travel, and anything else that helps you understand Japan in a deeper and more enjoyable way.

I have a younger sister and brother, so I’m used to explaining things patiently and helping younger people learn. I do not hold a formal teaching qualification, but I enjoy teaching, listening, and adjusting the way I explain things depending on the person.

My lessons are focused on relaxed, practical conversation rather than a strict classroom style. You do not need to speak perfect Japanese, and making mistakes is completely okay. We can practise everyday Japanese, pronunciation, useful expressions, travel Japanese, or simply have conversations based on your interests and level.

Japanese can look difficult at first, especially because of hiragana, katakana and kanji, but in my opinion, you do not need to master everything before you start speaking. I think one of the best ways to improve is to use Japanese regularly, make mistakes, and talk about things you genuinely enjoy. How long it takes to learn Japanese depends on your goals and how often you practise, but consistent conversation practice can make a big difference over time.

Most of all, I want you to enjoy learning Japanese and come to like Japan even more through our conversations. My goal is for you to leave each lesson feeling that Japanese is fun, useful, and something you want to keep speaking. Let’s talk a lot, discover more about Japan, and enjoy learning together!
