About Davis

Learn industry-ready Computer-Aided Design software from an accomplished instructor and product designer! I'm a full-time freelance product designer and roboticist with over 12 years of engineering experience across many different industries. I've co-founded four startups, launched multiple products, and designed dozens upon dozens of functional prototypes. CAD has played a central role in my career; I also use it in several of my hobbies, including building electronic gadgets and designing cosplay props. I am also an accomplished educator with over 12 years of experience teaching a variety of subjects, from third-grade mathematics to college engineering courses and everything in between. I'm supportive, patient, and flexible with my students, and I have an infectious enthusiasm for all things learning. I meet each student where they currently are and use personalized approaches to get them to where they want to be!

About the lesson

I offer hands-on lessons in SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion (formerly Fusion 360), and Onshape that teach practical skills and foster a robust design mindset. All lessons take place online, and free CAD software is available for those that don't currently have access to a license. All skill levels are welcome! NEW TO CAD? Learning to design in CAD programs is daunting because they present you with so many different options and features at once. To solve this, I use a project-based and interactive approach that teaches core skills. My goal is to get you up to speed on the basics as quickly as possible so that you can learn by doing - you can then teach yourself the more specialized features of CAD as you need them later. By the end of your very first lesson with me, you will have created your own functional, personalized design while mastering the essential features used by all of the "Big Three" CAD programs. FOR MAKERS & YOUNG PROFESSIONALS: Looking to upskill? Working on a design and stuck on a particular feature? Not sure where to start to make the image in your mind a reality? I can teach you advanced CAD techniques and strategies such as constraint-based design, parameterization, version management, design for manufacturability, and design for 3D printing. You can also draw design guidance from my 12+ years of engineering experience across six different industries - I've made a little bit of everything in my career and would be thrilled to help you do the same!
