About Hannah

My name is Hannah and I am a jazz and classical vocalist based in Leeds and soon to graduate from Leeds College of Music. During my time at the college I have studied classical voice for three years with Carolyn Hargreaves and Sarah Dacey alongside jazz voice for two years with Miriam Ast.
Whilst at the college I studied Classical conducting under the tutelage of Jon Malaxtebaria, specialising in choral conducting and I was fortunate to be awarded scholarships to study at the Dordogne International Jazz Summer School, The Guildhall Contemporary A Capella Summer School and most recently study under Marion Cowings in NYC at Smalls Jazz Club. In both my second and third years I was awarded the second study bursary from Leeds College of Music to study both jazz and classical voice in conjunction with one another alongside participating in the following masterclasses:

Miriam Ast and Victor at Leeds College of Music
Carolyn Hargreaves and Ariana Festau at Leeds College of Music
Emily Dickens of VOCES8 at the Guildhall School

Over my three years at the College I have also managed the SU Chorus, taking the choir on an international tour to Prague and performing at Leeds Town Hall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, represented my year group as a course rep from 2016-19 and most recently as Education Officer for the LCoM Student Union from 2018-19.

My background is in Classical music having studied with BBC 3 Generation artist Kathryn Rudge from 2014-17 alongside singing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with their Youth Choir. Studying the violin and leading an orchestra alongside studying voice and singing in chamber and church choirs for over 10 years.
Most recently I represented Leeds College of Music at the Composers and Poets Forum at the renowned Leeds Lieder Festival.

I am currently performing regularly around Yorkshire and the North of England as a soloist alongside with my Jazz Duo, Quartet and Quintet at a variety of weddings, jazz clubs, private events, restaurants, bars and concerts.

About the lesson

I teach all age groups from young children to elderly students with a wide variety of abilities from beginner to advance and tailor my lessons and content accordingly.
All lessons will focus on a set of core elements that will be matched to the students requirements and wishes:

Technique
Vocal health
Performance skills
Scat
Language skills in Italian, French, and German
Repertoire
Interpretation
Theory

All lessons are designed to be engaging, fun and informative whether you are learning for a specific goal e.g graded exams, performing at an event or learning to stay in good voice!

I offer lessons for students wishing to undertake ABRSM or Trinity performance exams from Grade 1-8 and will take both beginner and students who have already began graded examinations through the process, ensuring to make it enjoyable and rewarding.

I am equally happy to teach students who wish to learn a variety of vocal genres and techniques, as I am happy teaching just one core discipline, as all lesson will be tailored to each student.

I am happy to travel to all students within Leeds, depending on the distance a small travel fee may be added to lessons but this can be negotiated on a student by student basis.
