About Haig
Haig Lucas is a published poet and student of literature. He is the editor of Outcrop Poetry. An avid reader and a student of literature he is familiar with poetry, drama and prose. He also has an extensive knowledge of the history of English literature and the arts in Europe. He is a highly organised individual, who is great with young people. His passion for the arts is his greatest teaching tool, like laughter, it is infectious.

Creative writing is an incredibly difficult and rewarding enterprise. Unlocking the transformative power of creative writing is a fantastic step on the road to self-development and social understanding. Lessons will begin with a discussion about writing, and a review of relevant texts, either short poems or excerpts from longer texts. We will discuss the techniques the writer used to make the passage effective as well as the way it makes us feel and what it makes us think about. Texts will range from the classical to the contemporary ensuring a broad scope, images and other art forms will also be referenced where appropriate. The student's own creative writing work will then be reviewed in light of the skills and techniques derived from these established texts. We will take a look at existing work, or plan new writing pieces. This can be through mind maps, short summaries of ideas, free word associations or pictures. The student will then be asked to use the materials from the lesson to prepare for the next session. Overall, the student will be introduced to a number of texts, artists and artistic styles. They will not only gain a far broader understanding of the historic development of the arts, but also gain a much deeper knowledge of the techniques writers use and how to effectively employ them. Student’s expression will also be analysed and improved. The student will gain confidence in their ability to write creatively and engage creatively with the arts.
