Bring Your Imagination to Life: Learn Drawing in Kota Kinabalu
Drawing is a pleasurable and calming activity that offers a sense of liberation. While drawing is commonly associated with childhood, some individuals pursue it as adults and progressively enhance their skills. Engaging in drawing allows for the refinement and mastery of various techniques, with some artists actively striving to enhance their artistic abilities while others naturally improve through consistent practice.
People who enjoy drawing for fun may not realise it, but they can improve over time. Meanwhile, some artists actively work to improve their drawing skills because they have specific goals they want to achieve with their art. This requires them to get better continuously.
The Sensational Art of Egon Schiele
Egon Schiele was a talented artist from Austria who loved drawing from an early age. He went to an art school in Vienna called the Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule when he was 16 years old. However, the teachers there soon realised he was skilled, so they encouraged him to attend the more traditional Akademie der Bildenden Künste. Schiele didn't like the conservative teaching methods of the academy, so he left in 1909 with other artists to form a group called the Neukunstgruppe and exhibit their work together. In 1909, Schiele developed a strong bond with the renowned Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and began working under Klimt's mentorship.
Despite the evident influence of his mentors, particularly Gustav Klimt, Schiele established a unique and personal artistic style at a remarkably early stage of his career. While his drawing style gradually became more realistic, it retained a strong expressionistic and dynamic quality. Schiele skillfully employed techniques such as perspective, composition, and line manipulation to capture the emotions and humanity of his subjects authentically. This enabled him to delve into profound psychological themes in his artwork, including sexuality, immortality, and mortality.
Schiele's drawing style, as seen in his artwork "Lovers," is characterised by his innovative use of perspective. He frequently depicted his subjects from a high vantage point and often posed them in reclining positions. This approach resulted in extreme foreshortening, giving the figures a distorted appearance despite their accurate proportions. The combination of foreshortening and distortion portrays Schiele's figures as thin, contorted, and awkward. These visual impressions are crucial in conveying themes such as the fragility and transience of human life and adding a voyeuristic quality to Schiele's art.
Schiele's exceptional artistic abilities were not solely attributed to his natural talent. His dedication to continuous practice and observation significantly influenced his skill development. Over less than ten years, he produced many figure drawings, honing his craft through consistent effort. Additionally, Schiele demonstrated confidence and fearlessness in his approach to drawing. He fearlessly tackled challenging perspectives, refrained from erasing, and experimented without the fear of making mistakes. This mindset was crucial in Schiele's growth as a skilled draughtsman and was an inspiring example for aspiring artists. Schiele's teachings emphasise the importance of regular practice and taking risks to enhance our drawing abilities.
