About Tom
Hi, I'm Tom!
I love creativity, and I believe it applies to all teaching. I'm especially good at framing the learning within your needs and letting you dictate the pace of the learning - I've gained these skills through many years of teaching students of all levels, many of whom have gone on to have amazing careers in music.
I love research supervision, and I'm great at supervising postgraduate research and/or applied qualifications.
I like to base learning in creativity - I am a strong advocate of learning through making, and try to make each lesson contribute to your portfolio if possible. Typical lessons are 1 hour long.
I have PhD in Music Tech education from the University of Auckland, and my Masters (also UoA) is in digital composition. My pre-graduate degree was in jazz drumset performance.
I might be fairly new on Superprof, but I've been teaching in classrooms and privately for a long time and have really refined my process during lockdowns etc.

I can help you with any of your music learning needs, from reading theory to performance and advanced music production. Age and experience is not an issue; we'll create a personal learning plan together that gives you clear, achievable goals but also takes your schedule and circumstances into account.
Zoom works best for me as we can share screens, however I'm happy to work with whichever video calling software you like :)
