About the lesson

Are you aiming to move from a B to an A/A* in A-Level Sociology? Or finding it difficult to consistently achieve high marks on 10 and 20 mark questions?

I am a senior leader in a high-performing comprehensive school with a strong track record of excellent exam outcomes. I have over 13 years of experience teaching AQA Sociology, alongside Criminology and Psychology, and a clear understanding of what examiners are looking for at each grade boundary.

I also have 5 years of experience as an AQA examiner, allowing me to give students precise, practical guidance on how to maximise marks, avoid common pitfalls, and produce high-level exam responses.

What sets my tutoring apart is the combination of subject expertise, exam technique and a strong focus on metacognition. I explicitly teach students how to plan, monitor and evaluate their thinking so they become more effective, independent learners. These strategies not only improve performance in Sociology but transfer across other subjects.

I also bring a valuable personal perspective: as someone with ADHD, which I manage successfully in a demanding professional role, I have a strong understanding of focus, motivation and cognitive load. This informs my teaching approach and is particularly helpful for students who may find organisation, attention or confidence challenging.

Sessions are tailored to individual needs and typically focus on:
• Developing effective exam technique for 10 and 20 mark questions
• Strengthening evaluation and analysis (AO3)
• Structuring essays to meet top band criteria
• Building confidence and independence in learning
