About Ava

Hello! My name is Ava De Melo and I am eighteen years old. I will be attending Lakehead University to study English Literature this upcoming fall. I am the winner of the Writer's Craft Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in the course (100% final grade), the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Leadership, and the Poetry Award from graduation. Moreover, I am a published author who appears in a collection of poetry from the best young writers in Canada through Polar Expressions Publishing. I am also a poet, writer, and reader who adores performing and leadership. I have various experiences in leadership roles, such as my status as the co-founder of two successful clubs at my high school (the poetry society and the mental health club) and my involvement in the school community (various clubs like newspaper, prom committee, book club, free peer tutoring, and the leadership course (97% final grade). Moreover, I have done multiple spoken word performances in front of my school. For example, my co-leader of the poetry society and I hosted a school event, the coffee house, for our entire school. This was a night of performances, desserts, and socialization. My friend and I organized the entire night, which took about a month! Our jobs included auditioning students, writing scripts, decorating the room, and maintaining order throughout the evening. Ultimately, my goal in these clubs is to inspire young writers and advocates to seek confidence in their vulnerability and creativity! Furthermore, I was awarded a certificate of achievement for my leadership skills and successful completion of the tutor training program through Licensed to Learn. I have undergone all the training sessions and completed my tutoring booklet. I also have experience in creating lesson plans on a book for grade nine students for my leadership course. In addition, I have a talent for bonding with others and ensuring that they are comfortable, which led to my peer tutor and I becoming friends. Moreover, I am a lover of learning! I have too many hobbies. I love to run, play soccer, make little films, sing, play the ukulele, draw, and spend time with the people I love. Ultimately, I cannot wait to meet the individuals who choose me to be their tutor. I have an immense enthusiasm for helping others and inspiring them in any way I can!

About the lesson

I am a licensed tutor specializing in anything English for individuals from first to twelfth grade! Lessons with me will include explanations, guidance, support, feedback, and more. I will be present and available for any questions or recommendations as well as helping to establish and brainstorm ideas relevant to the work. Moreover, I am a social and friendly student whose goal is to help others see their potential and develop positive self-esteem. I am a great listener and an avid believer in healthy determination and work ethic. In addition, I helped my peer tutor earn her high school credit in business by aiding her in gaining confidence in her abilities and utilizing my skills by applying them to our relationship and my self-curated lesson plans. Ultimately, I support individuals to any extent to which they need to ensure their success internally and externally.
