About Melanie
I'm a teacher, writer, and editor with 20 years' experience teaching writing and literary analysis. I have a master's and a PhD in English. I'm also a certified secondary ELA teacher in Texas. In addition to teaching middle school, high school, and college, I have worked as a college essay coach since 2020, helping students write strong application essays that get noticed by admissions committees.

When it comes to ELA skills tutoring, we'll first talk about what you want to improve (analysis/essay writing/grammar). We'll practice skills through hands-on application: reading, annotating, close reading analysis, then coming up with a claim we can support with evidence from the text.
For college essay coaching, we'll start with brainstorming, then drafting, and polishing. The end goal is an essay that is unmistakably YOU!
