About Averie

Hi! I’m a certified Language Arts teacher with a passion for helping students grow in skill and confidence. I’ve been tutoring since 2018 and teaching 8th and 9th grade Language Arts since earning my degrees in Adolescent/Young Adult Education and English Literature & Writing in 2022. I’ve also served Charleston County School District in the creation of the 2024-2025 ELA curriculum.

What I love most about tutoring is the one-on-one connection it allows. It gives me the chance to work closely with students and content beyond the classroom walls. It also lets me explore and refine teaching strategies that I can bring back into my own classroom to benefit all learners.

Tutoring with me means getting a teacher who is not only experienced and professional, but also genuinely committed to your success. Whether you’re aiming to improve your writing, better understand literature, or prepare for an important exam, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

About the lesson

I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of learners, including students who are legally blind, on the autism spectrum, or managing severe learning disabilities. This experience has taught me how to adapt my instruction to meet individual needs, learning styles, and academic goals. I believe every student is capable of growth when given the right tools and support.

My teaching style is clear, encouraging, and tailored specifically to each student. I focus on breaking down complex concepts and building foundational skills. Lessons can range from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes, depending on the content, there will be skills to practice beyond the lesson that we would review in the following one. This depends on age, timeline, and depth of content. I am flexible on weekends and during the week.

Usually, with the students I tutor, I use a session to truly get to know the student that I am teaching to figure out what type of learner they are (verbal, visual, etc.). After that, we are able to set a game plan for approaching assignments in a class, bringing up a grade, or anything the student needs.
