About Rachel

I graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) degree in English from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge where I was also the organ scholar and sang in the Choir. I always enjoyed music when I was growing up, particularly playing the piano and organ. During my A levels I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department and was inspired by my teachers there to one day teach myself. Since graduating I have pursued a self-employed career in music and balance my time between professional singing and teaching. I enjoy variety in my work and therefore having the contrast of performing and teaching is a dream come true!

About the lesson

Many students have a goal of working their way through graded piano exams. With seven years of experience in entering students for both ABRSM and Trinity piano exams I am fully familiar with the process of preparing for a music exam. My aim is to make the process enjoyable and enriching, selecting repertoire that plays to the student’s strengths and allows them to explore any preferable musical styles they may have. If a student does not want to work towards an exam my aim is to approach piano repertoire broadly and enthusiastically, highlighting the vast range of repertoire available to pianists. My hope is that in my lessons students can discover the piano, learn solid technique and explore their own personal interests in the most enriching way possible.
If a student is having difficulties with learning I believe I have the skills and personable approach to transform their learning into discovery and demonstrate this process to be appealing and exciting. Learning should never seem like an obstacle. Instead it should be seen as something that enlightens a student to their own potential.
