About Inês
Hello! I am Ines, a Postgraduate student currently concluding an MA in Postcolonial Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Prior to this I achieved an Honours degree in my BA in Political Science & International Relations. I hold an A graded Certificate of Proficiency Exam issued by the University of Cambridge, that states I have a C2, native proficiency of English.
Having always excelled in my Spanish and Portuguese Language exams in secondary school, I started tutoring English Language and Literature as a volunteer for CoachBright. As an avid reader and compulsive writer with a penchant for dissecting meaning in texts and analysing structure, I found it easy to adapt the skills from one language to the other. Since then, I started tutoring professionally both individual and groups of students seeking to perform well on their GCSE's.
I love teaching, and making the tutoring session a safe environment where learning happens out of a place of curiosity for the world, not fear or anxiety. I find that this approach yields the best results, as it encourages confidence and self-esteem, rather than triggering fight or flight responses during exams.

I believe in a student-centric, holistic approach to teaching and learning. Most students struggle with English Language because they don't understand how the skills they learn in English class might apply to their real lives!
Thus, my starting point as a tutor is always the student: what are you passionate about? How can we adapt our teaching to your interests? At the end of the day, English is all about building up your confident so you become an independent thinker, capable of reading between the lines, and articulate your own thoughts clearly. In a world where we are overwhelmed with constant information, "fake news", and opinions left, right, and centre, these skills are more important than never before.
Having tutored in underfunded public schools as well as through other apps, I learned that there is no "one size fits all". However, in every class I try to adopt an "I do, we do, you do" methodology, and ensure there is an adequate balance between explanation and practice over the course of 1h/1h30. I avoid tutoring English for longer than that to prevent burnout.
