About Janneta
My junior school was St. Anthony's Lewiston Convent School, in Sherbourne Dorset, where I boarded from the age of four and enjoyed happy memories with my friends and classmates. Even though the sisters made us swim every week in the schools outdoor swimming pool and changing cubicles, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. In the winter they used to break the ice on the pool so we could get in and swim!
The tuition was hard although enjoyable, where we did not just do the national curriculum, but the Nuns pushed us that bit further without us even realising. To this day I remember the freezing icy water, even though it was just one quick length and then out we got of the pool, and we ran to dress as fast as possible in the outdoor cubicles, then indoors for Hot Chocolate and a Rich Tea biscuit. The Nuns were from Belgium and therefore taught us several different languages, including German, French, and Latin.
My Senior School was Lark Hill Convent School in Preston and was in its time the school to go to, was exceptionally difficult to get in. They only took the highest achievers and therefore I was either quite bright, or just lucky. Here I studied and boarded until I was 18. Lark Hill and the entrance exam was renowned to be difficult. The school only took the top students, and I was one of them.
Due to the foresight of my Parents, I was particularly grateful for the excellent academic schooling I had received from both of my highly acclaimed schools. I could not have received a better education and feel my Parents did their utmost to ensure this.
1978, was then my beginning at Edinburgh University where I was the first woman for 25 years to get on the large animal veterinary course. I relished my course here as I appreciated how blessed I had been to achieve what I had managed despite the odds against me. Although during 1981 to 1982 my love for animals was too affected, by the balance of animal value to veterinary cost, that the working animal community work on. After an extremely emotional experience, I decided to do a complete U-turn in my career and followed my Art skills. I applied and gained a place at The London Art Academy. Then went on to do Fashion and Design, followed by two apprenticeships. First in pattern and design for tailoring, second in millinery and after joined our family Bespoke Tailoring business.
Although I am very accomplished in the Fashion Industry, my passion is still in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If I had been more accomplished in shutting out my emotions from practicality, I feel I would have still enjoyed most of a Veterinary day to day work, unfortunately I was unable to do this. I still paint to relax when I get time, although that is not very often. I enjoy stretching my imagination and creating something, which I suppose replaces a day in the operating theatre. Whether I spend time individually producing a PowerPoint for one of my students’ lessons, or designing something for a client, even just time out to sketch something and relax, as we all need to relax do you not think?
In 1984 I began Tutoring to help Apprentices we had working for us, with their maths calculations necessary in Pattern Grading. This I found stimulating, encouraging the academically challenged apprentices in their understanding of harder maths calculations. They left us with more confidence and more opportunities available to them. I then moved on to tutoring their friends and siblings, who then passed my number onto others and so my Tutoring increased over the years. Many of whom I helped with their Art, English and Sciences as well as Maths. All sent to me by recommendation from Parents whose children I teach or taught.
I enjoy tutoring and making lessons inspirational as well as informative. I do my utmost to keep my students one step ahead of the curriculum. My tendency is to push and encourage my students without them realising how hard they are working. I give them assurance that they can achieve their best and am always available to chat if they need help, especially during exam times when they usually need a little extra push.
I keep regular achievement records to keep abreast with each individual and enable me to keep Parents up to date in the progression of their child. I always consult with both Parents and Students to tailor each lesson to individual needs and wants. I set classes and homework that correspond to the lesson in question and can when given enough warning create a lesson that will cover any subject issue that your child does not understand in school. I have found that this has happened quite often during the disruption caused by the recent pandemic to the school curriculum.
Please do not hesitate to ask if there is something you are wanting your child to work towards. I do have a high success rate in achieving passes into many Independent and Grammar schools. As well as high grades in GCSE, and IGCSE exams.
