About Lucy

I graduated from Oxford University with a First in Art History, before which I completed an art foundation diploma at City and Guilds of London Art School. I hold an MA in Art History from the Courtauld Institute (Distinction) in early 20th century German Art and Architecture, and received my PhD in Art History from the University of Edinburgh in 2023. At secondary school I received 10 A*s at GCSE and three A*s at A Level.

I have experience leading seminars for second year undergraduates in Art History, as well as years of experience as a private tutor for Art History, Fine Art and English Literature. A-Levels (Scotland: Highers), GCSE, UCAS guidance, viva prep, PhD proof-reading.

About the lesson

My bespoke lessons are tailored to help each tutee reach their full potential in a friendly, relaxed environment, sharing all the tips of the trade and honing individual strengths by working on developing ideas and clarity of expression.

I tutor Art History (at A-level through to PhD), Fine Art (at GCSE and A-level), English literature (GCSE to undergraduate level), as well as UCAS and interview prep for these subjects. I additionally offer viva prep and proof-reading for humanities PhDs.

Each initial lesson is a complimentary taster hour, so you can invest in future lessons with confidence. I teach online with flexible timings, depending on the tutee's availability.

Each lesson will be tailored to your particular topics or projects, at your pace.

For fine artists: I spent a year specialising in plaster and clay sculpture at art school, but have also worked using the materials and techniques of printing, welding, concrete, casting, painting and life class. I will guide your creative process and help you produce sketchbooks that will do justice to your ideas. I will teach you how to record the evolution of your ideas in a visual language and with an awareness of wider influences and relevant theory.

For art historians, English literature students, Oxbridge candidates, and those preparing for a PhD viva: my experiences at Oxford and the University of Edinburgh taught me how these institutions value raw potential over rote learning. My job will be to equip you with the skills to hone and develop your academic interests so that, by the time you are faced with an exam or an interview, you will be able to approach questions with the intellectual curiosity and sophistication an interviewer or examiner is looking for.
