About Adam

Hello! I am an art instructor, specializing in oil painting and drawing. My MFA is in digital art and my BFA is in Studio Art, and I am a practicing oil painter and artist. Years of experience teaching oil painting at the University level has prepared me for teaching a wide variety of art subjects, such as color mixing, brushwork, proper use of materials, measuring, working with line, texture, perspective, layering, composing, and more.

I pride myself on creating working relationships with students and addressing them at their level. I love giving encouraging feedback and helping to break down complex ideas into simple parts. I am not here to flaunt my knowledge, but to share what I have learned and witness the excitement that art can bring to both the student and the teacher.

About the lesson

Art lessons should be fun and relaxing. There may be challenges, but you'll be sure to meet them when you have the confidence that you can make the required progress.

The first lesson you'll have with me will get an idea of your goals. What are you hoping to learn or accomplish? What are your current skills? How best do you learn?

From there, I put together the necessary resources to help you get from A to B. We will meet according to a schedule that works for both of us, for half hour sessions that explore everything you need to learn and practice. I give in-depth feedback on your work, noting your improvement and areas that might need attention.

Because art is not just a set of formulas, but is a process of experience and practiced understanding, my lessons are not just a bunch of lectures. We explore ideas and concepts, yes, but the real growth happens through practice and feedback. That is why lessons will not take up much of your time, but will be packed with insights, observations, and the knowhow that will get you to where you want to be.

Regardless of my academic and professional accomplishments, the thing I've prided myself on the most is the care and attention I give to my students.

My lessons are for students aged 13 and up. I teach beginner and intermediate lessons. If you would like advanced training, I would request to see your portfolio first.
