About Coel
Hello! My name is Coel and I am based in Manchester but from Sheffield. My studies have given me a rigorous grounding in design, spatial thinking, materiality and visual communication - I always approach things with curiosity and an open mind.
Outside of academia I run an events company and perform as a vinyl DJ, which reflects a broader commitment to culture, craft, and making things with intention. I have five years of experience in client-facing roles, so I'm comfortable adapting to different people and communication styles - students included. I'm patient, enthusiastic, and I want to help younger students find their creative voice and produce work they're proud of.

I am a second-year Architecture student at Manchester School of Architecture, one of the UK's top five ranked architecture programmes, with a strong understanding in art, design, and three-dimensional thinking developed through both academic study and years of independent creative practice. My tutoring is aimed at GCSE and A-Level students in Art & Design, Design Technology, and Sculpture, and I tailor each session to the individual, whether that means developing observational drawing skills, working through a project brief, refining a portfolio, or building confidence with materials and making.
My approach is very hands-on and conversational, I believe good design thinking comes from asking the right questions, and I encourage students to develop their own visual language rather than mimicking visuals. Sessions typically run for one hour and can take place in person in Manchester or online. I believe I am particularly well-suited to students who are creatively ambitious but struggling to translate their ideas into resolved work, bridging that gap between instinct and execution is something I work on in my own practice.
