About Heather
I have taught multiple unique subjects around the world and in different languages. I began teaching and building a school in 2011, and have been teaching anywhere from ages 3-30 years old. I can teach children and adults alike.
I am a leader who is never out of ideas when it comes to building a brand new way of approaching any subject. I taught a summer program about indigenous history and the damages of colonization but I did it through food, music and art. I was able to teach one of the most emotionally & intellectually difficult subjects there is to 4th graders because I knew to choose a medium of creation & celebration that allowed us to HONOR the stories we were faced with.
I am a published writer and currently on contract to publish my first full-length book this year!

My methods & techniques are interdisciplinary, interactive and always creative. I believe that to really understand a subject or a concept we must approach it from a multitude of angles an*respond* to it through various mediums, for example:
Let's say we're learning Spanish. Rather than have you sat there with a book or flashcards, I've asked students to each write a SCENE in English then come together as a group to help one another translate each scene into Spanish, THEN the group would organize the various scenes into a short play to be acted out in front of the classroom. Perhaps something like "a day in the market". Even inviting the students to make their own visual probs and costumes may not seem like a Spanish lesson, but I have seen the power of excitement and investment with we combine the act of CREATION with any kind of LEARNING. These two spheres bond together and break down boundaries in our understanding, but more importantly, the limitations of our self-esteem.
