About Ilda

I completely understand how challenging learning a new language can be, because I’ve been through it myself. Learning English was not always easy for me, so I know how frustrating it can feel when you understand something in your head but struggle to actually say it out loud, it feels like you become not as smart as before.

I’m a bilingual Chinese and English speaker, and I have experience studying and living in an international environment. I’m also currently working as a Chinese language tutor for children from Chinese-speaking families who have grown up in English-speaking environments. This has given me a good understanding of the challenges learners can face when they are surrounded by English but still want to develop a stronger connection with Chinese.

I’m a very chatty, approachable and curious person, and I genuinely enjoy talking to people and sharing my experiences. I believe that language learning is not only about memorising vocabulary and grammar — creating a comfortable language environment and having the confidence to actually use the language are just as important.

I’d love to help you build your confidence in Chinese through real conversations and everyday communication. Whether you’re learning Chinese from scratch, trying to reconnect with your Chinese heritage, preparing for a trip to China, or simply looking for someone to practise with, I’m happy to meet you at your level and learn together!

About the lesson

If we learn Chinese together, I’ll focus on making Chinese practical, engaging and relevant to your everyday life.

I believe the best way to learn a language is to use it, so our lessons will involve plenty of conversation and real-life communication. Rather than simply following a textbook, I’ll adapt the lessons to your interests, level and goals.

Depending on what you’d like to achieve, we can work on:

️ Speaking and everyday conversation
Listening and pronunciation
Vocabulary and grammar
️ Reading and writing
Chinese culture and everyday expressions
️ Practical Chinese for travel and daily life

As a bilingual Chinese and English speaker, I can explain things in English whenever you need extra clarification, while gradually helping you become more comfortable using Chinese.
