About Ha-eun

I have been surrounded by music my whole life and have played violin for 26 years. I went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory and an MM at the Boston Conservatory. I have won competitions, played in professional orchestras, and soloed with orchestras. I had the great fortune of studying with wonderful teachers, and I strive to be like them and pass on their wisdom. I am passionate about teaching out of a desire to help people grow and express themselves.

My primary language is English. I have an okay grasp of Korean.

About the lesson

I teach folks of all ages and skill levels: from kindergarten age to those in retirement; from having never done any music to those preparing for conservatory.

I emphasize building core understanding and technique (e.g. rhythm is universal, have only necessary tension, a good bowhold will unlock beautiful tone). Beyond fundamentals, I always aim to collaborate with my students to form reachable goals. I tailor my approach to those goals and a student's personality to make sure that the level of rigor is appropriate.

Perfect! Ha-eun knows how to instruct my son and correct various "bad habits" he had from before. She also knows how to push him so he is now motivated to be better than the previous week as he struggles through some difficult elements in the music. Very happy that we found Ha-eun :)

Daniel is bright, observant, honest, has an amazing attitude, and to top it all off has a great sense of humor. He listens well, is respectful, really considers and thinks through questions I ask, and never gives up even when I put him through tedious (but useful) exercises. He tries new strategies that I suggest without complaining. I've really enjoyed teaching him!
