About Sophie
Hello! My name is Sophie, I am currently a post-graduate student at King's College London studying Applied Bioinformatics. I recently graduated with a BSc in Neuroscience, which I studied to pursue my interest in the brain. I decided to pursue higher education in bioinformatics as I wished to explore more analytical and computational approaches in biological research, and this field has allowed me to develop skills to statistically analyse biological data, complementing the laboratory experience I gained during my undergraduate study. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in data science, either as a bioinformatician or as a data analyst, helping to provide useful and insightful analyses. I enjoy being physically active and have been climbing since I was 10 years old, competing on regional and national levels. I also joined the Kendo Society in my second year at KCL and won the 'Women's category' in the annual university competition last year. I also have a passion for music, having played in a county brass band since I was young, as a cornet player and also learnt the French horn during my former years in high school. I also helped with the weekly brass band practices for the younger band as part of my Duke of Edinburgh volunteering award, and would often be responsible for teaching smaller sections in the cornet and French horn sections. I would also help with guiding them during the full band practices, and also with reading sheet music. I hope that by utilising my high school knowledge and revision skills I can help with your studies which contribute to any future dreams or endeavours!

Basic Teaching Structure: - If there are specific areas that you wish to work on we can focus on those! - First, gain a baseline understanding of current knowledge of the chosen topic via attempting a topic quiz or assessment. - Select areas of improvement and focus on expanding understanding through the use of textbooks (and sometimes relevant academic papers) whilst also cross-referencing lesson criteria. - Refer to the curriculum outline and mark schemes of past papers to analyse and identify how markers expect the answers to be written. - Finally, readdress lesson criteria to ensure all areas are covered and attempt a mini end-of-topic quiz (either collated previous exam papers or manually-made questions in test format). Previous Experience: I have experience teaching students in a county brass band, aged 7-13 years old, weekly. I was responsible for conducting and organising section parts into smaller groups to practise music pieces, and primarily focused on teaching students that played the trumpet/cornet and French horn parts.
