About Iris
Hi! My name is Iris Carrasco, and I’m a dedicated educator, mother of three, and passionate advocate for student success. As a mom with children in high school, second grade, and preschool, I understand both the teacher and parent perspective when it comes to supporting children academically and emotionally.
I have been teaching for about 8 years and am currently a third-grade teacher at a high-behavioral-needs school, where I have developed strong skills in differentiation, patience, classroom management, and meeting students where they are academically and emotionally. My experience has taught me that every child learns differently, and success comes from finding the right strategies that work for each individual learner.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction. My background has prepared me to support students in reading, writing, math, study skills, and test preparation.
I am also familiar with educational programs and assessments such as i-Ready and SBAC, which helps me better support students with targeted practice, skill-building, and test-taking strategies.
My goal as a tutor is to help students build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and discover successful ways to learn both in and outside the classroom. I believe learning should feel encouraging, achievable, and meaningful, and I strive to create a supportive environment where students can grow and succeed.

**What to Expect from My Lessons**
My lessons are personalized, engaging, and designed to meet each student at their current level. I begin by identifying strengths and areas for growth, then create targeted lessons that build skills step by step while boosting confidence.
For reading, I focus on phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking strategies. For math, I help students strengthen number sense, problem-solving, and foundational skills using clear explanations and guided practice.
For bilingual learners and Spanish support, I provide instruction in both English and Spanish when needed to help students better understand concepts and feel supported in their learning.
Each lesson includes:
• Clear learning goals
• Interactive practice and guided support
• Strategies students can use independently
• Progress updates and feedback for families
My goal is to make learning feel achievable, enjoyable, and meaningful so students leave each session feeling more confident and capable.
