About Chiara

I am currently a postgraduate student doing an advanced MSc International Relations and Diplomacy at Leiden University (the Netherlands), with a particular interest in conflict studies and human rights. Through my masters I have gained experience in quantitative and qualitative research skills, as well as training in conflict negotiation.

I graduated with a first from my bachelor's in Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences at the University of Birmingham. This was a four year interdisciplinary degree programme where I gained experience in a variety of subjects such as English, Sociology, Anthropology and Politics. My dissertation applied an interdisciplinary framework to explore the motivations of 'ordinary individuals' to commit 'extraordinary evil' in the Rwandan genocide and I obtained a first in this.

I am an organised, friendly and outgoing individual, with previous experience in teaching where I was a mentor for high school-age students in my second year of university. Currently I am doing an internship as a conflict analyst where I publish articles online on a variety of geopolitical issues and therefore I have a breadth of experience in both academic and non-academic writing skills.

About the lesson

It is vital that the student is placed at the centre of teaching. Therefore, I always begin my lessons by asking the student what they need and want and subsequently develop a tailored lesson plan from this. It is important to me that my students feel comfortable in their lessons and are receiving the guidance they want, therefore my teaching style is flexible, relaxed and principally aims to help students build confidence in their writing and presentation skills.
