About Oliver
I am a recent Mathematics graduate and have enjoyed mentoring KS3 and KS4 students, helping them build confidence and really understand the topics they find challenging. I focus on spotting where students struggle and tailoring lessons to make learning both clear and engaging. The biggest reward in teaching mathematics is supporting students as they reach the ‘aha!’ moment. The best part is that this is attainable for learners at all levels! Whether a student is working to secure the first few marks in an exam or aiming for full marks on the final questions, that moment of realisation is one of true jubilation (for me as well!)

My approach when teaching is centred around targeting my students’ weaknesses. I aim to understand not only where they struggle, but why, as this insight helps me choose the teaching style that will benefit each student most. I also encourage students to attempt questions and make mistakes, as getting things wrong is a crucial part of the learning process and helps build genuine understanding. I place a strong emphasis on conceptual teaching, as it is essential for supporting students in exam questions. By encouraging students to explain why a particular method works, I help them embed techniques more deeply in their minds. This reduces their reliance on memorisation during exams and gives them the foundational understanding they need to tackle the more challenging questions that appear later in the paper.
