About Maya

こんにちは! I'm Sensei Maya, a Japanese-Australian citizen with a deep passion for language and teaching. I’ve been living in Japan for over 10 years, and during this time, I've dedicated myself to mastering the Japanese language and helping others do the same. I was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, and moved to Japan when I was 15 years old to pursue my dream of competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics # My Journey I currently work for a US-based Japanese company, where I blend my knowledge of both cultures to contribute to our global team. My commitment to language learning led me to achieve the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), passing the N1, which was a proud milestone in my journey. Before diving into the world of language and business, I was a rhythmic gymnast, and I had the incredible honor of competing on the Japanese national team! The discipline and determination I learned as an athlete continue to inspire my teaching methods today. # Teaching Experience With over 200 current students on different platforms, I've had the pleasure of guiding many learners through their Japanese language journey. My students range from absolute beginners to those preparing for higher-level exams, and I'm proud to say that many of them have successfully passed the JLPT N5 through N3 levels. I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs, ensuring that they not only learn the language but also enjoy the process. # Personal Interests When I'm not teaching, you’ll often find me outdoors. I love hiking and recently accomplished one of my long-time goals—hiking to the summit of Mt. Fuji! It was a challenging but unforgettable experience. At home, I’m accompanied by my two adorable cats, who bring joy and laughter into my life every day. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.
