About Apeksha

While my academic background is in business, my heart has always belonged to music. I’ve been learning Hindustani vocal music for the past 5 years, and in 2023, I started teaching, with the goal of passing on the rich tradition and beauty of this art form. From my early years participating in school and college competitions to being awarded the Roll of Honor by MDU Rohtak, I’ve always been driven by the desire to understand, practice, and master this powerful art. Through years of dedicated training, I’ve come to realize the transformative power of music and I want to share my knowledge with others too. Teaching gives me the opportunity to help others discover the depth and beauty of Hindustani music, while nurturing their own voices and personal growth.

About the lesson

In my classes, I believe in blending traditional techniques with personalized guidance to ensure every student’s musical growth. Here's how I incorporate different methods into my teaching:

Swar Training (Note Practice)
I start by helping students become comfortable with the basic swaras (notes). We’ll use ear training exercises to sharpen your ability to recognize and sing each note accurately.

Alankars (Vocal Exercises)
I introduce alankars early on to improve vocal flexibility and control. These exercises are tailored to your vocal range and capabilities, starting with simple patterns and gradually progressing to more complex ones. As you practice, we focus on smooth transitions, improving tonal quality, and ensuring proper breath control.

Raga Practice
You’ll learn how to bring out the mood of each raga through improvisation and ornamentation, and we’ll move from basic ragas to more advanced ones as your skills develop.

Taal Training (Rhythm)
I use various tools like tabla accompaniments and rhythmic clapping to ensure students internalize the taal and can maintain perfect timing while performing.

Theory and History
I believe understanding the history and theory behind Hindustani music enriches the learning experience.

Bhajans
Alongside classical training, I integrate devotional music like bhajans, especially to help you connect with the spiritual and emotional aspects of singing. These help to develop a sense of rhythm, melody, and voice modulation in a more relaxed environment.

Each method is carefully customized to your progress, making sure that your journey in Hindustani vocal music feels personalized, rewarding, and deeply rooted in the tradition.

This approach ensures that students not only learn the technicalities of Hindustani classical music but also develop an emotional and cultural connection to it.
