About Anita
I am a McGill music student with a psychology minor. I have been teaching privately since 2014. I have 14 years of training in opera, classical piano, Hindustani vocal and Kathak. My guru is one of Pandit Birju Maharaj’s closest disciples, Sangeet Natak Academy award winning Smt. Urmila Sharma. In 2018 I pioneered an opera-kathak recital as my first independent production which was met which much success at Studio 303. Within the past 2 years, I have claimed awards and performed 30+ times globally, including professional solo performances in India in festivals amongst the biggest names in Kathak today. I am a “with distinction” student in all my dance exams and continue to train intensively in India.

I have a structured teaching method, which I tailor to each student. I am incredibly passionate about teaching and believe everyone can learn if taught effectively! A syllabus will be provided for each season. A typical class with me starts with the appropriate stretches, followed by basic movements and a revision/corrections of old material. New material is added once the student is comfortable and I never leave any questions unanswered! These Kathak classes are for beginners of all ages.
