About Rayyan
Hi, my name is Rayyan and I am a 3rd Year Medical student at Cardiff University. As a student, I better understand the struggles of GCSEs and A-levels as I went through that same process myself and this gives me a unique insight into issues and concerns of students. I am always ready for a challenge and whether you are a beginner or an expert, I promise with me as your tutor you will definitely learn something new and improve.
I am very enthusiastic about science and maths and this has led to me achieving various awards as well as the position of Science Leader. In this role, I developed the Student Science Lecture series where students were exposed to discussions on a range of scientific topics outside of their curriculum. I was also proactive in mentoring KS2 students in science-related subjects and activities under the ‘Super Science Club’. These experiences have solidified and improved my teaching ability. And by working both with very young Key Stage 2 children as well as Year 11's and 12's I can easily adapt my teaching style to suit the student's way of learning as well as teach in a way that is both educational and engaging. Additionally, I have been tutoring students, part-time, for almost 2 years now and therefore have a lot of experience teaching the subject.

I like to structure my lessons in a way that's both engaging and informative. My style of teaching revolves around the student, trying to make them actively engage with the content and help the student gain the tools necessary to answer challenging questions and problems on their own.
I tend to organise my lessons by first outlining/sign-posting the learning objectives for the lesson as well as a quick starter activity to help get the student engaged with the lesson from the get-go! After this, I try to explain the concepts with examples, where applicable, to ensure the student can see the concept in the context of an exam scenario. After this, I then let the student have a go at some questions and see how they get on. If they struggle with the problem I try my best to give the students hints and ideas about how they could go about solving the problem without just giving the answer, so they can learn the concept themselves. Finally, I once again go over the learning objectives in a quick summary and then allow the student to ask any further questions about the lesson and begin to plan what they would like to work on in the next lesson!
I feel this strategy allows the student to learn effectively and engage with the material while also not feeling overburdened with information. In my opinion, the single most important thing when it comes to encouraging learning is positive feedback as it serves to encourage the student to continue to try their best at the subject.

As a long-time friend of Rayyan, I would say he is someone who is passionate about science and loves to teach others. I fondly remember him teaching me electrolysis, a concept that I often was confused by. The way he explained it was simple and clear and very easy to follow.
