About Kio

I am a certified Japanese language tutor with a passion for helping students achieve their language goals. Grammar is my major and I offer JLPT preparation lessons and speaking training alongside. I was born and raised in Japan and am now located in Toronto, Canada. I hold a bachelor's degree in Arts, specializing in Language and Culture, with a major in Linguistics and a minor in Morphology. My academic journey focused on understanding the fascinating intricacies of language, particularly the formation and structure of words, including stems, roots, prefixes, and suffixes. I bring this strong foundation in linguistics to my teaching, creating engaging lessons that make learning both effective and enjoyable! In my personal life, I like to maintain a healthy lifestyle by drinking less alcohol, eating healthy and well, and sleeping well! I have also been enjoying weight training in the gym for several years.

About the lesson

I am a certified tutor mainly teaching grammar. I also offer JLPT preparation lessons and communication lessons to beginner learners and young students (age 14 and up) including Nikkei generations. I approach your grammatical questions logically from a linguistic perspective using morphological, syntactical, and pragmatic explanations. Additionally, I have also been supporting intermediate students to practice conversations and update their knowledge and memory. I am here for you if you are an adult or are old enough to understand logical explanations in my non-native English, and ・You are a Japanese immigrant or a descendant around the world who wishes to learn proper use of the Japanese language. ・You want to learn grammar from the basics ・You want to solve your grammatical questions with linguistic explanations ・You want to become able to navigate yourself before traveling to Japan ・You are an intermediate learner and want to practice conversations ・You are looking for a tutor who helps you figure out which approach will fit best for you Personal Tutoring Policy ・I usually respond to messages within a few hours. Allow me 1-2 days when I’m busy or taking a holiday off. ・Do not overbook or over reschedule ・I read every message when you submit rescheduling and cancellation confirmations although I usually do not respond unless necessary. ・When your desired dates are not available, don't hesitate to ask me for accommodation. ・If you are a parent of the student and you are responsible for lesson scheduling and any other communication with me, make sure you get notified of my messages in order to avoid miscommunication. ・You can reschedule or cancel lessons without my permission. I’ll receive notifications from the platform. However, not showing up without letting me know anyhow wouldn’t be appreciated.
