About Neal
My career in education spans international and domestic classrooms over the past 20 years. I began by teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) learners abroad in South Korea and Mexico, an experience that taught me how to break down complex ideas into clear, accessible language, anticipate learning roadblocks, and connect with diverse students. After returning to Canada, I transitioned to a middle school classroom, where I have spent the last 10+ years teaching full-time.

My math teaching focuses on building conceptual understanding and problem-solving confidence through a collaborative, student-centered approach. Rather than memorizing formulas, I help students break mathematical concepts into manageable pieces, using targeted questions and real-world logic so students discover why the math works.
Lessons will vary depending on the needs. It could be homework help or the introduction of a new topic. If introducing/reinforcing a new topic a typical lesson plan may follow this format:
Check-In & Homework Review:Clarify lingering questions from class and set the session objective.
Concept Breakdown: Introduce the core rule, theorem, or formula through clear, step-wise visualization.
Active Practice: Students take the lead on solving problems while I provide real-time guidance and gentle scaffolding when you hit a snag.
Wrap-Up: Summarize key takeaways and outline independent practice.
