About Oran

I’m a native Irish speaker, having attended both primary and secondary school entirely through Irish. Much of my life has been spent immersed in the language, and I’m passionate about helping students become confident Irish speakers.

I’ve also worked in the Gaeltacht at Coláiste UISCE, where I’ve shared my love of the spoken language with students through watersports and activities. I have also been trusted by the Institute of Education, one of Dublin’s leading grinds schools, to give full mock Irish Oral exams and provide individual feedback.

Having sat the Oral myself in 2025 and now conducting mock Orals, I have the benefit of seeing the exam from both the student and examiner’s perspective. I know what it feels like to sit the Oral, as well as what to look for when assessing someone else.

Regular practice Orals in the weeks and months leading up to my own exam made me comfortable and confident on the day, and this is the approach I want to bring to my students.

About the lesson

I strongly believe that for the Irish Oral, practice makes perfect. My lessons focus on real conversation and realistic mock Oral exams from the start, rather than simply memorising complicated answers.

I want students to use the Irish they are already comfortable with, alongside the material they are already learning from their own teachers. The aim is to help you speak naturally, fluently and confidently, rather than forcing you to use language you aren't comfortable with.

We will practise all topics and different parts of the Oral exam, with realistic exam-style practice throughout.

After each practice Oral, I'll give you specific 1-to-1 feedback on your fluency, pronunciation, accuracy, confidence and answers, and show you exactly what you can improve before the real exam.

The goal is to make speaking Irish feel and sound natural, so you can walk into the exam confident in your ability.

Oran helped me with LCPE privately last year, his experience correcting full exam papers and his in depth understanding of the projects and curriculum is definitely a huge part of the reason I was able to get a H1 and get my first CAO choice. With his help I understood what the examiners are looking for in all exam question types. I would definitely recommend him for anyone going for a H1.

Oran gave my son Irish grinds for his Leaving Cert exams in June. I was so pleased with his results. H1 in his exam and 99% in his oral with Oran's guidance. He remained professional yet relatable throughout. He gave actionable steps and advice to allow him to improve. Also, I really thought it helped having a younger teacher to help my son as he had struggled with other grind teachers in the past. Thanks again, Oran, would 100% recommend!
