About Katherine

I am currently pursuing my passion for languages as part of the European Social and Political Studies: Dual Degree at Sciences Po Paris and UCL in which my first and second years will be spent at the Franco-German campus of Nancy (Sciences Po Paris).

GCSEs : 9- German 9- French Mandarin- A*
A Levels: A*- German A*- French A- History

I have previously tutored in French and Maths, and in English where I specifically worked with SEN children.
I have also taught English at French primary schools in the Alps, where I was responsible for planning and delivering lessons.

As a result of my tutoring experience I am well prepared to motivate students toward a pass (4/5) grade as well as those aiming to achieve 8s and 9s at their GCSEs. Having been part of the first cohort who sat the reformed language GCSEs I am fully aware of how daunting the experience can be and am well equipped to pass down my tips and knowledge on how to perfect exam technique for these 9-1 exams.

About the lesson

I am offering GCSE and A Level French lessons and GCSE German.

My teaching method would be driven by the student's priorities. I would ask them which exam board they are taking and to tell me bit about their experience with the language so I can gage where I could be the most useful.

In advance of the lesson they would let me know an area that they are struggling in or would like extra practice in such as speaking, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary. This would also be content focused as I know the exam boards split languages into clear sections such as family, technology, festivals and heritage etc. We would focus on a specific skill but within the context of the curriculum e.g speaking practice about technology.

I would use resources such as AQA textbooks and workbooks to guide the teaching in order to stay curriculum focused but also recommend resources such as podcasts and YouTube videos to encourage exploration and interest outside of the curriculum as I think this is vital in maintaining a passion for learning languages and to be engaged with the culture of the country you are learning about.
