About Tess

I am a Chemistry tutor with over four years of experience and a Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry. My passion lies in exploring the fascinating chemistry of natural products and biomolecules that shape the world around us. Over the years, I have delved deeply into the study of secondary metabolites, natural dyes, flavours, and biologically active compounds found in plants, microbes, and other living systems. I love showing students how these molecules are not just textbook concepts but the foundation of many medicines, colours, and scents we encounter every day. My lessons often involve guiding students through the processes of extraction, isolation, and structural elucidation of these unique compounds. Step by step, I help them understand how chemists uncover the secrets locked inside leaves, roots, or even marine organisms. I believe chemistry is best learned when theory connects to discovery. That’s why I use real-life examples and research-inspired discussions to spark curiosity and critical thinking. Whether we’re examining the pathway of a natural dye or understanding the chemistry behind essential oils, I ensure every topic feels alive and relevant. Teaching isn’t just about sharing facts—it’s about inspiring exploration. I want my students to see chemistry as a key to understanding nature’s hidden designs. Together, we can uncover the chemical wonders waiting to be discovered in the natural world.

My teaching approach for Chemistry is highly practical and focused on making complex topics simple to understand. I believe that every student can excel when concepts are explained in a clear, structured way. Lessons cover a wide range of areas like stoichiometry, chemical reactions, balancing equations, and reaction kinetics, all taught step by step. This method ensures that students gain confidence as they move from basic ideas to more advanced applications. I use a lot of problem-solving exercises, guiding students through each calculation carefully. Precision matters, and I provide detailed support so every solution is accurate. I also bring in interactive tools like **Cell Explorer** and **Biotech Dreamer**, which make learning modern chemistry and its applications more engaging. These tools help students see how chemistry connects to real-world discoveries. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs, making sure they fully grasp key ideas like chemical change and reaction processes. I often break complex topics into small, manageable parts, so students never feel overwhelmed. Whether we’re tackling a tricky balancing equation or understanding reaction rates, the goal is always mastery, not memorisation. I encourage questions and guide students to think critically about why reactions happen the way they do. By the end of each session, they don’t just solve problems—they understand them deeply. With this approach, students gain the clarity and confidence they need to succeed in their exams, assignments, and beyond.
