About Nigel

I'm Nigel, a Cantonese native speaker and Fintech graduate based in London. I hold an MSc in Financial Technology (Distinction) from the University of Nottingham and a First Class BA in Business Management and Accounting & Finance from Nottingham Trent University. Alongside my studies, I mentored and supported students as a Cert Mentor and Student Ambassador, which gave me a genuine appreciation for helping others learn and grow with confidence. I'm passionate about making Maths and Cantonese approachable, and I enjoy adapting my teaching to how each student learns best.

About the lesson

I teach Maths and Cantonese online to students up to GCSE level, tailoring each lesson to the individual student's pace and learning style. As a native Cantonese speaker with a First Class BA in Accounting & Finance and an MSc in Financial Technology (Distinction) from the University of Nottingham, I bring a strong quantitative and analytical foundation to every Maths lesson, breaking complex topics down into clear, manageable steps with worked examples and practice questions. My Cantonese lessons build practical conversational confidence alongside reading and writing skills, adapted to the student's starting level. Lessons typically run for 60 minutes, structured around explanation, guided practice, and a short review to track progress and address gaps before the next session. I draw on previous experience mentoring and coaching students one-to-one, so I'm used to adjusting my approach to keep lessons focused and genuinely useful for each learner.

Nigel and I have been friends since university, and I've had the privilege of learning Cantonese with him for the past two years. What truly sets him apart as a teacher is his remarkable patience and his ability to tailor every lesson to suit my individual learning pace and goals.
Over our two years together, Nigel has guided me from beginner level to conversational confidence, adapting his teaching style to match my needs. He doesn't just teach grammar and vocabulary in isolation; he brings real-world context, cultural nuances, and practical scenarios into every session. This has been invaluable as I've been preparing for travel to Hong Kong and exploring how to use Cantonese in international business contexts.
His genuine enthusiasm for the language is infectious, and he creates an encouraging environment where it feels natural to take risks and learn from mistakes. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your business Cantonese, Nigel is the kind of teacher who will meet you where you are and help you get where you want to go.
I wholeheartedly recommend Nigel to anyone serious about learning Cantonese. He's patient, dedicated, and genuinely invested in his students' progress.
