About Ryan

Ryan Shafer is an american born producer musician known for playing Lead Guitar for the Alternative Rock band Outside Of Society from Salt Lake City, Utah from 2015 - 2019.

Ryan grew up in a small town in Michigan's Upper Pennisula and started playing and taking lessons for guitar at the age of 12. At age 15 he moved out to live with his father in Dugway, UT (Really small town In Utah some Utahn's dont even know exist), and pretty much practiced and played guitar for 3 years hard. Senior Year Ryan got accepted to Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California for Guitar Performance.

While attending Musicians Institute starting 2009 Ryan had the amazing opportunity to play and learn from some of the best musicians - teachers the industry has to offer. Ryan was privately taught by Dave Weiner (Steve Vai), Ken Steiger, Ken Roesser, Ed Finn, and Bill Lafleur. During his time he spent a lot of time jamming and learning with fellow musicians at the school and played in some MI bands as well rhythm guitarist in the post-hardcore band BENEATH ATLAS for a brief moment and got to play Key Club on Sunset strip a week after turning 21.

After the Guitar Program Ryan entered into the audio recording program at the school where he learned about recording and producing music. While in the program got involved in recording and producing music with his classmates. where he ultimately ended up playing the guitar solo on the Hip Hop track "Purdie Skies" by Innocent featuring Collins, Drego Baby which ended becoming the best final projects of the Audio Program that semester as decided by Instructor Jim Morgan.

Prior to graduating from the Audio and Guitar programs at Musicians Institute Ryan served his College Internship credit becoming the personal assistant for old school Hollywood songwriter and producer Al Kasha who won two academy awards for best songs from movies "The Poiseiden Adventure" and "The Towering Inferno." in addition to also being nominated for Tony's, Golden Globes, People's Choice and an Emmy as well. There Ryan learned a lot from Kasha regarding Songwriting, Theatre, Lyrics, projects of all sorts and most of all hard work and considers him one of his biggest mentors. Towards the end of his internship Ryan ended up editing Al kasha’s book “The Ultimate Book On Songwriting”

After serving his time working for Al Kasha, Ryan ended up recording his instrumental EP entitled "A Native Entity" which he recorded in his room in a frat house he lived in when he lived in North Hollywood in 2012 in hope of pursuing a music career producing music for movies, commercials, and video games. Album and music never really released until now in 2019.

After finishing up his college study In 2014 Ryan moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to live with family in hopes of continuing his music career post Los Angeles. His First band in Salt Lake City in 2015 was called "Sway Magnifique and The WonderingWut.” he played in that band for a few months and then joined Alt Rock band Outside Of Society.

In 2016 Ryan scored music for Short Film “TIME” by LBP films and Salty Block pictures.

From August 2014 to November 2018 Ryan Shafer was lead guitarist in the alternative rock band Outside Of Society and released two albums “Never Be Done” in 2016 and “Those Who Remain In Glory” in 2018 and opened up for many notable bands like Crazy Town, Adelita’s Way, Bang Tango, Deadset Society, Screaming For Silence, Sleep Signals, Puddle Of Mudd, Bobaflex, Caroline’s Spine, Main Man, Horizont, Adrenaline Mob, Manafest and others. touring to and From venues in Salt Lake City like Utah State Fair to places like the Whisky A Go Go in LA throughout the midwest to places like courage home in Sioux City, IA and even a festivals as far as Ohio. Outside got featured television program Fox 13 "Good Morning Utah" and has been played on radio station Kber 101.1 "Salt Lake Soundcheck," "KAFM Grand Junction," "Boston Rock Radio," "Red Rock Radio," "San Diego State College Radio," "Kback Rock Radio," and "Free Radio Provo."

I focus on the individual needs of my students, providing lessons that emphasize the students interests, in addition providing information that expands the students interest. my main styles are Rock, Classical, Acoustic, and Blues.
