About Sophie

My travelling journey started and ended as I found myself staying in the Dominican Republic because of its natural beauty and the warmth of the people. Here, I’ve learned Spanish and gained a deeper understanding of my Dominican friends' lives and their vibrant culture. One of my dreams is to one day open a space where I can offer free English lessons to locals, helping to open up new opportunities for them. While learning Spanish I felt self-conscious on many occasions and it held me back; I completely understand the sensitivities that arise without control.

About the lesson

I believe in a very interactive and student-centred approach to teaching. My goal is to keep my students actively involved throughout the lesson. I use repetition, but not just by repeating words. Instead, I like to cycle the conversation back to incorporate new vocabulary and phrases in different contexts, helping to secure them in memory. This method allows students to practise and use the language naturally, making it feel more intuitive. I also place a strong emphasis on clarity and structure. I believe in making everything concise so students understand exactly what they are learning at each step. This helps build confidence and ensures that the learning process is effective and enjoyable. My lessons are designed to be engaging and tailored to the needs of each student, so they can progress at their own pace while feeling supported and motivated.
