About Ilze
I hold a degree in Computer Graphic Design, which I obtained while living in Michigan, USA. During my time in the United States, I volunteered as a Math and English tutor at my daughter’s school, where I discovered my passion for teaching and helping students grow in confidence.
After relocating back to South Africa, I obtained my TEFL qualification and have been teaching English online for the past four years. Through this experience, I became aware of the challenges many native English-speaking high school students face when learning Afrikaans, which inspired me to start helping students improve their understanding and confidence in the language.
Having grown up in a bilingual Afrikaans and English household, as well as living abroad for seven years, I believe I have the ideal balance of language understanding, communication skills, and cultural experience to support English-speaking students learning Afrikaans.

I am a native Afrikaans and English speaker with online teaching experience and a TEFL qualification. My lessons are aimed at high school students who need help with Afrikaans grammar, comprehension, speaking, writing, and exam preparation.
My teaching style is patient, supportive, and adapted to each student’s learning level and goals. I understand the challenges English-speaking students face when learning Afrikaans, so I explain concepts clearly in English and Afrikaans to make lessons easier to understand.
