About Kirsty

I am a native Cantonese speaker with both parents from Hong Kong, and Cantonese has been my primary spoken language at home since childhood. I grew up speaking Cantonese daily and studied Chinese on weekends alongside regular school, giving me a strong foundation in both spoken and written Chinese. My bilingual background allows me to explain Cantonese clearly and effectively to English-speaking students, particularly those learning as a second language or heritage learners. I understand the common challenges students face and focus on accuracy, pronunciation, and confidence from the start. I tutor because I genuinely enjoy mentoring and helping students develop practical language skills. My approach is supportive, structured, and results-focused, helping students build confidence and communicate naturally in Cantonese.

About the lesson

My Chinese (Cantonese) lessons are results-driven and tailored to each student’s goals, whether learning conversational Cantonese, improving pronunciation, or building a strong foundation in reading and writing. I focus on practical, real-world language use to help students gain confidence and make consistent progress. I adapt each session to the student’s level and learning style, using clear explanations, repetition, and targeted practice to ensure steady improvement. I support beginners through to intermediate learners, including children, heritage learners, and adults who want to connect more confidently with Cantonese language and culture.
