About John

I am a native English speaker from the United States. I hold a PhD in Social Anthropology and have published work in peer-reviewed academic journals. I have several years of experience teaching English and editing academic articles.
I am also a lifelong musician (playing mostly experimental improv) and an aspiring filmmaker. My first feature length film is currently in production.

About the lesson

Teaching:
I have several years of experience teaching English as a second language to people of all ages and from various part of the world. I can tailor the lessons to meet the specific needs of each student, whether the emphasis is on conversation, examination preparation, essay support, or basic grammar and vocabulary. The student is welcome to choose any learning materials they desire, or I can formulate and supply a lesson plan.

Editing:
I have considerable experience in editing across a range of disciplines at university and post-graduate levels, including theses, dissertations, and peer-reviewed articles. I have also published articles based on my dissertation research in peer-reviewed academic journals, thus clearly demonstrating excellence in scholarly writing. Editing is not only about correcting grammatical and syntactical errors. I also pay attention to the overall structure and flow of the work, making sure that logical connections are being made and that the main ideas are being appropriately explicated. I tend to leave detailed comments identifying problems and giving suggestions on how to rectify and restructure them. My clients always appreciate the dedicated engagement and the careful examination that I accord their work.
