  • Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

Actually, I was born in Colombia, a Spanish-speaking country where I had the fortune to grow up and live for 39 years, so I grew up speaking with people of various accents, thanks to the fact that I traveled a lot to the different regions of my country, where a characteristic aspect is that in each region people have different ways of speaking and their own culture and traditions, which made it very interesting for my profession as a journalist.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you believe is the emblematic representative of the culture of the language?

I fully agree with the opinion of a large proportion of the world's Spanish-speaking population, that the most emblematic historical figure that our Spanish-speaking culture has had up to now has been, without a doubt, the late Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, Gabriel García Márquez, Colombian writer, named affectionately as Gabo, in Latin America, who was author of the famous novel One Hundred Years of Solitude.

His brilliant contribution impacted literature with numerous novels, short stories, while encouraging the production of Latin cinema in Cuba, and he wrote for theater. In short, because of the richness of his creative contributions, there was a before and after Gabo in Spanish-speaking culture.
  • Is there any word, phrase, tradition or typical expression of the language that you especially like?

Certainly, there are quite a few words, phrases and expressions that I love in Spanish, so it is not easy to choose just one, but to cite an example, I especially like the typical expression "Píntela, que yo se la coloreo". This colloquialism is based on the ability of the Colombian community to move forward in the face of adversity. It means that we are going to assume and accept whatever faces us, any situation, come as it comes and we will take on the challenge. It is also used in the context of plans to do with friends or family, expressing that if someone decides to invite us to their party, we will bring what is necessary to make it great and fun.
  • Why do you care to speak this language?

For the power and cultural value of language and communication in an idiom that is used as an official language in 21 countries, including mine.

I consider myself an ambassador of my culture and that is why I feel honored to be able to share it with those people who want to learn Spanish and master this very interesting language, especially now, when I live abroad, in Australia, where the native language is English.

For me, it is wonderful to speak Spanish, due to its richness in idioms, vocabulary and because it has been enriched through the history of humanity, as shown in its updates of language, the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, it is very nice and fun; in fact, it arouses many emotions when we communicate in Spanish.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help in the learning process?

The verb conjugations, which change according to each personal pronoun, and which also vary according to the different verb tenses. To facilitate learning, it is essential to design and work with multiple practical exercises where the student can become familiar with each of the verbal conjugations, using the different tenses, preferably in everyday contexts, as the student progresses in their learning. He must be encouraged not only to read or write the sentences, but to speak and listen to them, through conversations and other methods.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I remember with special affection my Spanish and philosophy teachers, exceptional teachers who taught me the basics of my native language with great solidity. Every week, I had to write a philosophical essay and read many books. This became a hobby for me, to the point that after a while, I no longer needed to write a draft of each essay, but just wrote the text, which was ready for evaluation.

Their pedagogical process was essential for me to develop excellent oral and written expression skills, a quality that allowed me to stand out in my work as a content coordinator for television and corporate communication, and as a journalist for the written press and television. Likewise, it gave me great achievements in my academic life, which I appreciate.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

In fact, every time I travel to places where Spanish is spoken, when I interact with the locals, I notice the language differences and try to familiarize myself with the accents and learn some expressions of the people of that place. Actually, I am always surprised by everything I find and how, many times among Spanish speakers, we must explain to each other the meaning of some words that are used
