About Aina
Hey there, I'm Aina (pronounced Eye-Na). I moved to Sheffield for my Masters at University of Sheffield last 2021. Prior to this, I have lived in Manila, Philippines my whole life. As such, my native language is Filipino/ Tagalog.
Being the UK added to my already many years of English-speaking experiences from the universities I went to, the friends I have made, and the jobs I've had. I consider myself bilingual.
I've observed that lessons for the Filipino/ Tagalog language seems to be rare, so I am eager to share my language and culture to interested people here.
Outside tutoring, I enjoy music (piano playing, playlist making, ugly singing), films & TV, and food & drink!
I can also teach music theory & piano playing, and Research Methods/ Designs/ Proposal Writing.

I believe in the concept of varying learning styles - therefore, I start my lessons with a quick introduction and identification of the best learning approach we can use. If you prefer an informal, formal or interactive, lecture-focused, etc - I am flexible so we can maximise what works for you!
Afterwards, I will provide the topic outline for the session and check which aspects of the language you are interested in focusing more time on. Usually, this is where it is useful for you to share your context and goal, so I can ensure to cover the priorities you have.
A typical lesson would contain:
- 20 minutes of vocabulary lessons
- 15 minutes of examples/ conversation scenarios
- The rest of the session is going through practice exercises/ live conversation together and clarifying any questions or points you want to explore further
This plan is flexible and can be adjusted to your preferences and needs.
