About Emmanuel

I am a French actor who has a Baccalaureat in Littérature and a BA equivalent in Acting.
When I am not acting, I teach and tutor French to students of any age.
I started teaching in the United States in 2009, when I was living there at the age of 16 to make some pocket money.

Having a lot of experience with kids as a summer camp counselor and baby sitter, most of my students were between the age of 8 all the way up to their mid 20's but i also have adults of all ages contacting me when they need to practice their conversationnal French.

I then moved back to France and taught English as a side job as I was going through my Acting School. (as well as French lesson through skype with the students I had made back in the States).

Teaching French to foreigners has been one of my favorite jobs ever and now that I live in London I am so excited I get to do more of it!

About the lesson

I strongly believe that we remember languages through things we love and feel personally connected to (music, film, books, travels etc...) so I like to incorporate my students passions and/or hobbies in my lessons as a jumping off point.

On the first class, I like to start with a little basic conversation to evaluate my student's level in French.
Then depending on how advanced the student is, I will eventually switch back to English to cover the basics. (I however try to speak in French as much as possible.)

To learn grammar, I like to use easy song lyrics from French songs they may already know, so it is easier for them to remember.
Listening to the song afterwards, is a great way to work on pronounciation as well as accent reduction.

I like to write down the lesson (or have the student do it) on paper with color blocking to help visualize what we just talked about.

At the end of the class, I go back through everything we discussed and encourage the student to either keep listening to the song we worked on, or come back next class having watched either a film, tv show, or maybe read a book or article in French so we can discuss about it. (I can also provide inspiration).

My class is very much based on the person and on their personnal preferances Every student is different and I like to cater to everyone's needs appropriately.

Manu's approach was both incredibly patient and thoughtful - he structured each lesson in accordance with different parts of my job, and made sure to cover all of the niche vocabulary i need to talk about technology and finance at work. Highly recommend.
